| Component | Typical range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Land package | ₹34,999 – ₹79,999 | The table above, by duration and hotel category |
| Return flight from India | ₹28,000 – ₹42,000 | Direct services run from Delhi, Mumbai and several other metros to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City; roughly 4½–5½ hours |
| Vietnam e-visa | ₹2,000 – ₹2,400 | US$25 for single entry, paid on the government portal. We prepare the application |
| Meals not in the itinerary + spending | ₹1,500 – ₹2,500 / day | Vietnam is inexpensive on the ground; street food and local restaurants cost very little |
| Optional add-ons | ₹1,500 – ₹6,000 | Ba Na Hills and the Golden Bridge, cooking classes, Mekong homestays, spa treatments |
A worked example. A couple doing the 6N/7D trip is looking at roughly ₹46,999 × 2 for the land package, about ₹30,000 × 2 for flights, plus visas and spending — so somewhere near ₹1,65,000 to ₹1,80,000 all-in. Travel in the shoulder months and the flight half of that drops noticeably.
Vietnam is long and narrow — about 1,650 km end to end — so the honest planning question is not what to see but how much ground you are willing to cover. These are the stops worth the travel time.

The single biggest mistake on a first Vietnam itinerary is trying to do Hanoi, Hue, Hoi An, Da Lat and Saigon in a week. You end up spending your holiday in airports. A more useful way to think about it:
One rule that saves most itineraries: never plan more than one internal flight for every three nights. Vietnamese domestic flights are cheap and frequent, but each one costs you half a day by the time you have done the airport at both ends.
Vietnam does not have one climate, it has three, and they do not line up. Any article that gives you a single "best month" is glossing over the thing that matters most — which part of the country you are actually visiting.
| Region | Best months | Months to be careful with | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| North Hanoi, Ha Long, Sapa, Ninh Binh |
Oct – Apr | Jun – Aug | Autumn and spring are dry and mild. Summer is hot and humid, and this is the stretch when storms can cancel a Ha Long cruise. Deep winter can be grey and cold, especially up in Sapa. |
| Central Da Nang, Hoi An, Hue |
Feb – Aug | Sep – Nov | The central coast has its own dry season, and it runs opposite to the north. Late autumn is the wettest window, and Hoi An's old town genuinely floods some years. |
| South Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong, Phu Quoc |
Dec – Apr | May – Nov | Warm all year. The wet season is mostly short, heavy afternoon downpours rather than washed-out days, so it is more workable than it sounds. |
If you are covering the whole country, go in March or April. It is the one window where the north has warmed up, the central coast is dry, and the south has not yet turned wet. October is the runner-up, but check the central forecast before committing to Hoi An.
Indian passport holders need a visa for Vietnam — there is no visa-free entry. The good news is that the e-visa is straightforward, entirely online, and we prepare the application as part of your booking.
Please verify before you book. Visa rules, fees and validity change, sometimes at short notice. Everything above was correct to the best of our knowledge at the time of writing, but always confirm the current position on the official Vietnamese government e-visa portal, or ask us and we will check it for your travel dates. Apply only through the official portal — the search results are full of paid look-alike sites charging several times the government fee.
We would rather you saw this before you enquired than after. If something you expected is on the wrong side of this list, say so and we will price it in.
We only sell Vietnam. That is a narrower business than most agencies run, and it is the reason we can tell you which Ha Long cruise boat is worth the upgrade and which is not.
One country, known properly, instead of forty sold from a brochure.
A full day-by-day itinerary with the final figure on it, before you pay anything.
Your own vehicle and guide. No coach tours, no waiting on eleven other families.
Vegetarian and Jain meals arranged in advance, in a country where that takes planning.
We prepare and submit the e-visa, and check the photo that most people get wrong.
Swap a city, add a night, change hotel tier. The itineraries are a starting point.
We will tell you when Hoi An floods and when a Ha Long cruise is a coin toss.
Someone answers in Indian hours and in Vietnamese hours, for the whole trip.
We have sent 2,000+ travellers to Vietnam. This is their unedited feedback — families, couples and groups. We publish the middling ones too; a page of nothing but five stars tells you nothing.
We were two couples with no idea where to start. What sold us was getting the full day-by-day plan with the final price on it before paying a rupee — no "approx" figures that grow later. The Ha Long cabin was exactly the one in the photos, and the Hanoi guide rerouted our morning when it rained instead of marching us round a wet lake.
My parents are 68 and 71 and strictly vegetarian, which is the reason we had put Vietnam off for years. Every hotel and the cruise had been briefed before we landed — Jain meals on the boat, no fish sauce, no arguments. Pace was kept slow and there was a wheelchair at Da Nang airport without us asking twice.
Honest four, not a polite five. The itinerary, the private cars and the Hoi An hotel were all excellent. But our Hanoi–Da Nang flight was moved to 6am by the airline and it cost us the morning we had planned in the Old Quarter. The team did rebook the day's sightseeing and told us straight away rather than letting us find out at the airport, which counts for a lot.
Booked for our honeymoon and asked to swap a Hanoi night for an extra one in Hoi An. Done the same evening, with the price difference shown as a line item instead of a vague "small supplement". The e-visa was submitted for both of us and they caught that my photo would have been rejected. Small thing, would have wrecked the trip.
Group of nine, three families, all wanting different things. They split us into two vehicles on the days it mattered and kept us together for the cruise. Someone picked up the phone at 11pm Indian time when we mislaid a passport in Sapa — sorted before breakfast. That is the whole reason I would book with them again.
Sapa in late January was colder and mistier than I had pictured and we lost a viewpoint to cloud. To be fair, they had warned us in writing that January is a coin toss up there and offered March instead — we chose the dates. Homestay, trek and guide were all genuinely good. Book the north for spring and this is a five.
Third time using them, first time with a toddler. Cribs confirmed in every room ahead of arrival, a car seat in the private car, and the Hoi An day was rebuilt around a 1pm nap. Quoted price never moved between the deposit and departure.
I compared four operators. Two would not name the Ha Long boat, one quoted a "3-star or similar" hotel with no name at all. These people named every hotel and the exact cruise vessel in the first quote — it was not the cheapest of the four, and it was the only one I could actually check before paying.
Our Ha Long sailing was cancelled by the harbour authority in bad weather — nobody's fault, and they had flagged it as a risk before we booked. We had a replacement night in Hanoi and a Ninh Binh day trip arranged within the hour, and they recovered most of the cruise cost from the operator. Handled far better than I expected.

Weather and cruises. Ha Long Bay sailings are occasionally cancelled by the harbour authority in bad weather. That decision is not ours and not the operator's. When it happens we rearrange the itinerary and recover what we can from the cruise line, but any unrecoverable cost and any extra night ashore is charged at cost. Travel insurance covers this sort of thing and we would encourage it.
Land packages run from about ₹34,999 per person for 4 nights to ₹79,999 for a 12-day grand tour, depending on duration and hotel category. Add roughly ₹28,000 to ₹42,000 per person for return flights and about ₹2,000 for the e-visa. A couple doing a 6N/7D trip typically lands somewhere between ₹1,65,000 and ₹1,80,000 all-in.
Yes. Indian passport holders are not eligible for visa-free entry and need a visa before travelling. The e-visa is applied for entirely online through the official government portal, is valid for up to 90 days, and costs US$25 for single entry. We prepare and submit the application as part of your booking. Please confirm current fees and rules on the official portal, as they change from time to time.
Six or seven nights is the sweet spot for a first trip, covering Hanoi, a Ha Long Bay cruise, and Da Nang with Hoi An on the central coast. Four to five nights works if you stay in the north only. To add Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta comfortably, allow eight or nine nights.
It depends on the region, because Vietnam has three different climates. The north is best from October to April, the central coast from February to August, and the south from December to April. If you are travelling the length of the country, March and April are the best compromise, with October the runner-up.
Yes. Direct services operate from Delhi and Mumbai, and from several other Indian cities, to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, with a flying time of roughly four and a half to five and a half hours. Routes and frequencies change fairly often, so ask us for current options on your dates rather than relying on an older schedule.
No. The prices shown are land-only, so what you see is the true cost of the ground arrangements. We can quote and book your flights alongside the package if you prefer, or you can book your own. Either way, send us your flight timings and we will build the itinerary around your actual arrival and departure.
Yes, but it needs arranging in advance rather than being assumed. Vietnamese cooking uses fish sauce very widely, including in dishes that look vegetarian. We brief hotels and restaurants ahead of your arrival and can build in Indian restaurants in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City where you want them.
It suits both well. Distances within each region are short, the food is inexpensive, and the main sights are easy to reach by road. Traffic in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City takes some getting used to, which is a large part of why we use private cars and local guides rather than leaving you to navigate it.
Six to eight weeks is comfortable for most dates. Book earlier for Indian school holidays in May and June and around late December, when Hoi An hotels and the better Ha Long cruise cabins go first. Avoid leaving it late around Tết, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, when the whole country travels at once.
Send us how many nights you have, roughly when, and who is travelling. You will get a full day-by-day itinerary with the exact price on it — before you pay anything.
